Teacher Workshops

The best way to get students excited about agriculture is to get their teachers excited first! DeKalb County educators have some great opportunities to learn ways to incorporate agriculture into the curriculum.

Summer Ag Institute
Here's a way to accomplish several objectives at once: earn graduate credit, work towards re-certification, learn about a fascinating and critical industry, and have a great time. Enroll in a Summer Ag Institute! Offered since 1992 in several locations across Illinois, the Summer Ag Institute is also being offered here in DeKalb County.  Northern Illinois University and the DeKalb County Farm Bureau have teamed up to present this three-credit course, which features a combination of hands-on workshops, presentations and field trips to farms and agribusiness.  Find out more. School In-service Workshops
Think about it—agriculture enhances your quality of life!  Explore ways to incorporate agricultural concepts such as plant and animal life cycles, food safety, environmental protection, renewable resources, nutrition, and more by hosting a workshop at your building.  The workshop can be tailored specifically the needs of your school and the time available.  Find out more and schedule your workshop by contacting Rhodora Collins.

Workshops at DeKalb County Farm Bureau
Themed workshops are occasionally offered after school, generally in the fall.  Past workshop themes include: Illinois mAGic (4th-8th grade), The Very Hungry Illinois Caterpillar (preK-3rd grade), and ISAT Prep: 10 Minutes a Day the AITC Way (4th-6th grade).  Watch our What’s New in Ag Literacy page for upcoming workshops.
